Steel pipes in Indian market

India has six million tonnes of pipe making capacity and imports 50-60 per cent of its raw material. China has started focusing on Indian market for pipes after Europe imposed anti-dumping duty and US started investigation on their exports for a possible trade barrier, said Mehta. Our pipes are used in virtually all types of platforms. Under abnormal loads, steel pipe will bend, rather than break.

The advent of rolling mill technology and its development during the first half of the nineteenth century also heralded in the industrial manufacture of tube and pipe. The pierced billet or hollow shell is rolled by a mandrel mill to reduce the outside diameter and wall thickness which forms a multiple length mother tube. The tube is then cooled, cut, straightened and subjected to finishing and inspection processes befor shipment.

This process completes the hot working of the tube. In 1825, the British ironware merchant James Whitehouse was granted a patent for the manufacture of welded pipe. Steel strip in coil, which has been slit into the required width from wide strip, is shaped by a series of forming rolls into a multiple length shell.

Tube for structural engineering and automotive applications. Steel tubing has a variety of uses in many industries from industrial manufacturing to art. This can save on the cost of the pipes without sacrificing flow rate.

When the pipes are no longer needed, they can be melted down and turned back into other useable metal pieces in other industries. The pipes will look and act the same in 20 years as they do today. The pipes will not sag and require much less support than plastic pipes.

Steel Pipe – Federal Steel Supply has been the preferred steel provider of the global community since 1979. Federal Steel is proud to support the manufacturing industry, a cornerstone of a thriving American economy. Our Stainless Pipe stock is available in full size and custom cut lengths.

It can also be used for structural applications; hollow pipe is far stiffer per unit weight than solid members. In common usage the words pipe and tube are usually interchangeable, but in industry and engineering, the terms are uniquely defined. Depending on the applicable standard to which it is manufactured, pipe is generally specified by a nominal diameter with a constant outside diameter (OD) and a schedule that defines the thickness.

Tube is most often specified by the OD and wall thickness, but may be specified by any two of OD, inside diameter (ID), and wall thickness. 1 While similar standards exist for specific industry application tubing, tube is often made to custom sizes and a broader range of diameters and tolerances. In general, “pipe” is the more common term in most of the world, whereas “tube” is more widely used in the United States.

Both “pipe” and “tube” imply a level of rigidity and permanence, whereas a hose (or hosepipe) is usually portable and flexible. Pipe assemblies are almost always constructed with the use of fittings such as elbows, tees, and so on, while tube may be formed or bent into custom configurations.
