Here are some common care instructions for washing bed sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, and other horse bedding set:

Read the care label

Follow the instructions on the tag for washing and drying recommendations. Look for information about water temperature, cycle settings, and if bleach can be used.

Wash in hot water

For most bedding, washing in hot water (around 140°F) will help kill dust mites, bacteria, and other allergens. Use the hottest water recommended on the care tag.

Use a mild detergent

Look for a gentle laundry detergent without added fragrance or dyes. Powder detergents often work best for cleaning bedding. Avoid using too much detergent which can leave residue.

Wash pillowcases frequently

Pillowcases should be washed at least once a week, or more if you have oily skin/hair. They collect oils, drool, sweat and skin cells as you sleep.

Wash duvet covers every 2 weeks

Duvet covers and comforters can be washed every 2-3 weeks, or according to manufacturer’s recommendations.

Dry thoroughly

Make sure bedding is completely dry before putting it back on the bed. This prevents mold and mildew growth. During warmer months, line drying outside allows the sun to further disinfect and freshen bedding.

Wash sheets weekly

Sheet should be washed at least once a week, or more frequently if you sweat a lot at night. Wash sheets in hot water to kill bacteria.

Clean mattress covers

Mattress pads and protectors should be washed every few months, or whenever they look dirty. Follow instructions on the tag.
